Today the seahorse is facing extinction from over fishing for the pet and medicine trade, and habitat destruction from global warming and development.
Vision: Inspiring ocean awareness by saving the endangered seahorse and sea dragons around the world from extinction through conservation, research, propagation, and education.
Many other marine fish are highly threatened around the world such as the leaf and weedy sea dragon, Hawaiian seahorses, and many other marine ornamental fish that are taken off our reefs here in Hawaii for the pet trade. We would like to save these species from extinction by producing them here at Ocean Rider and offering them to marine aquarium hobbyists and public aquariums around the world as an eco friendly alternative to the wild caught counterparts. This requires a tremendous amount of work and funding. We are happy to say that Ocean Rider has received funding from the Seahorse Hawaii foundation and Award No. NA05OAR4171157 from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, U.S. Department of Commerce and the Economic Development Alliance of Hawaii" to produce these marine ornamental fish.
The seahorse is now an endangered species protected by CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species). Please visit: SeahorseHawaii.org
