Dear Pete,
Thank you so much for your thoughtful, clear and passionate reply. You went to great length to provide me with a solid answer, and I really appreciate it! I do feel much better now about continuing to keep my H. ingens in the 72 – 74 degree range. Knowing that they have been raised for several generations at 75 degrees and that the initial broodstock came from tropical waters makes me realize that the warnings I have been receiving from fellow members on reef websites are unfounded. I am relieved! They are doing so well and seemed so content in the tank I placed them, and I hated the thought of having to sell them because I knew my other seahorses would not really tolerate temps in the mid 60s.
If you do not mind, may I cut and post part or all of your response on the reef website I belong to so that other seahorse keepers know that, at least in the case of the H. ingens that come from you, they are fine in the mid 70s. Would that be all right with you?
Again, thanks for your quick, thorough response!
Tom
