Dear Tammy:
Sure, if your seahorse setup is near a window and the ponies are exposed to natural sunlight, that’s a great way to provide them with an actual sunrise and dawn every morning if the first light the aquarium receives is from the window.. And, of course, natural light also provides the seahorses with seasonal changes in day length, and both the twilight periods at dusk and dawn and the varying day length can both help to stimulate the hormonal changes that result in a healthy interest in courtship and breeding.
As a matter of fact, at the Ocean Rider aquaculture facility in Hawaii, the seahorses enjoy the benefits of natural sunlight and ultrapure natural seawater from the National Energy Lab, which is one of the keys to their successful breeding and rearing program.
Best wishes with all your fishes, Tammy!
Respectfully,
Pete Giwojna, Ocean Rider Tech Support
