Hi there,
H barbouri are can be easier to raise. Their fry are indeed benthic. It is normal for them to sort of scoot along the bottom of the tank. Twitching however is not normal. Barbs are particularly sensitive to nitrates, which should be kept as low as possible. They seem to begin to display problems at 20 and greater. I would check your nitrates.
It is normal for males to release a couple of fry a day or so before he releases the entire brood. If you plan to try and raise the fry you need to move them to a seperate nursery tank and begin hatching baby brine shrimp.
HTH,
