Dear Phoebe:
I think that’s an excellent idea to equip your Biocube with a chiller so that you can keep the water temperature in the comfort zone for your Zulu-lulus (Hippocampus capensis) at all times! Zulus are very hardy, prolific little seahorses as long as they aren’t subjected to heat stress, and adding an aquarium chiller will eliminate that possibility.
If you can find a protein skimmer that’s easy to mount on your 14-gallon Biocube, that would also be an excellent investment. There are a ton of good protein skimmers available these days. For example, both the AquaC Remora and Euro-Reef series of protein skimmers are first-rate units that will serve you well. You can’t go far wrong if you select a quality AquaC or Euro-Reef skimmer but I don’t know if they make a model that would fit on an aquarium the size of yours, so you might want to contact the manufacturers and see what they would recommend for your 14-gallon Biocube. If space is at a premium as far as installing a protein skimmer on your Biocube goes, a lot of hobbyists like the Red Sea Prizm protein skimmers because of their sleek compact design. I’ve also heard good things about the H.O.T protein skimmers. I believe Premium Aquatics carries all of those brands of hang-on-the-back protein skimmers, and that would be a good place to start looking.
Best of luck getting your Biocube ready for a pair of Zulus, Phoebe!
Happy Trails!
