Dear Donna:
Congratulations on your new brood of ponies! Keep track of how long your male’s gestation was this time, and then you can very accurately predict when his next brood will be due, providing conditions in the aquarium remain the same.
Also, you can expect your stallion to remate now within the next day or so, if he is not already done so, and you won’t want to miss the ensuing courtship and transfer of the eggs, so keep a close eye on the happy couple.
A brood of 50-75 newborns is quite respectable for your young stud’s first mating. Subsequent broods should increase in number as the pair becomes more experienced in executing the copulatory rise, but that’s not bad at all for their first attempt.
Best of luck keeping up with the endless appetites of the voracious newborns, Donna!
Happy Trails!
