Dear Kimmi:
Excellent! Tracy Warland’s guidebook will help you get started off on the right foot and give you a better idea of which Australian seahorse species are best suited for your needs and interests.
Now, if you follow up and find a copy of "The New Marine Aquarium" by Mike Paletta and the Conscientious Marine Aquarist by Bob Fenner, you’ll gain a very good understanding of what’s involved in setting up a successful saltwater aquarium. With that basic knowledge under your belt, we can get you up to speed on the care and keeping of seahorses.
Hippocampus kuda are readily available and reasonably hardy seahorses. They would be a good choice for you if your primary interest is simply keeping the seahorses and admiring them rather than breeding them in raising the babies.
Best of luck with your reading and research, Kimmi!
Happy Trails!
