Thanks Pete for your quick reply to my message. I have a few options to try to relieve Tubby of his pouch gas problem. I will let you know how I get on. On a good note however, is that he seems to be not the least bit stressed by this or any other conditions in his world, in fact he is the happiest strongest healthiest seahorse around. So I’m sure that many of your suggestions can only increase his wellbeing. Thanks again Sandra

You’re most welcome!
Yes, indeed, it sounds like Tubby is a remarkably gregarious individual that very much enjoys interacting with you and is unfazed by the usual aquarium commotion. That’s wonderful and a very nice advantage with a problem like this that requires the seahorse to be handled while various procedures are being performed. I think it’s quite a blessing that he takes the pouch evacuations right in stride, because there are many seahorses that find the procedure to be stressful and traumatic. Tubby’s easy-going attitude and nonchalance regarding being handled should make it a great deal easier to perform a thorough pouch flush that may put an end to his recurring problems with pouch gas and positive buoyancy. And since he’s been such a great eater throughout, that should make it a simple matter for you to administer Diamox to him orally, via live feeder shrimp or frozen Mysis that have been injected with a Diamox solution, which will allow you to treat him with the Diamox while he is in the main tank where he is the most comfortable, in familiar surroundings and right alongside his tankmates.
All things considered, it sounds like Tubby will be a wonderful patient and that you should be able to put an end to the recurring pouch emphysema with the aid of a good pouch flush and a regimen of Diamox so that he can go about his merry way as usual.
Best of luck treating Tubby’s recurring pouch emphysema, Sandra!
Respectfully,
Pete Giwojna -
