Emergency question!!

Emergency question here!!! I brought my sea horses home tonight and the woman I got these from kept some sort of sleeve over the heater because she said the seahorses would always try and hook onto it and this would burn them. She sent the sleeve, but it does not fit my heater. It is almost 11pm where I am and no pet stores open etc. What should I do, or is it even necessary to get such a thing….. I have never read or noticed anything like that on a heater in a tank with seahorses before, but then again if I was looking at seahorses in a store, I wasn\’t really paying attention to what the heater looked like. I\’m so nervous because they swim over to that part of the tank and circle around it like they are going to attach themselves but haven\’t…………at least not yet anyway.

    HELP!!

    Dear Anna Marie:

You needn’t be concerned about a heater burn this time of year. You’ll want to set your heater to hold at about 72°F for tropical seahorses, and with the summertime heat waves that have been sweeping the country, if you’re heater comes on at all overnight it will be operating only very briefly. Certainly not long enough to cause a burn should one or more of your seahorses perch on it overnight. Wintertime is generally when you may have to worry about the possibility of a heater burn, Anna Marie.

So don’t worry about the lack of a heater guard right now. You should have plenty of time to obtain a heater guard from your LFS or from an online aquarium outlet that will work on your particular heater before the weather gets cold and there is any danger that a heater burn could occur.

Best of luck with your new arrivals, Anna Marie!

    Happy Trails!

Ahhhh phew! Thanks so much for the quick reply. Next time I need to stop at the lfs I will pick one up. At least I will be able to sleep at night until that time without having to worry about my little buddies getting burnt! Ugh!

    I’m enjoying them so much!

    Thanks again.
