Will “San Francisco Bay Sally’s Frozen Brine Shrimp Tropical Fish Food” from PetSmart work for sea horses?

November 30, 2015 at 12:24 am #5820Pete GiwojnaGuestDear Diamond Dancer:
In an emergency you might be able to coax seahorses to eat adult frozen brine shrimp, if you were able to thaw them out very carefully so that individual adult brine shrimp were released from the frozen mass whole and intact, and therefore lifelike, and if you then presented the thawed out adult brine shrimp to the seahorses so that it appeared to be alive.
But frozen brine shrimp is nutritionally barren when it comes to the crucial fatty acids that are so important for the growth and development of seahorses, so frozen brine shrimp should never be used as the primary food for your ponies. Seahorses that are fed a strict diet of frozen brine shrimp will develop a debilitating condition known as “soft plate syndrome” over time that can be fatal to them in the long run.
Frozen Mysis is the best prepared food for seahorses and should serve as their staple, everyday diet, Diamond Dancer. I will attach a document to this e-mail that is devoted to the subject of feeding seahorses with frozen Mysis so that you can download the document, save it on your computer, and then read through the information at your convenience. It will explain everything you need to know in order to feed your seahorses properly with a healthy diet, including explaining which brands of frozen Mysis are the best when it comes to seahorses.
Best wishes with all your fishes, Diamond Dancer!
Happy Trails!
