Hi Pete, I had my pair of OR mustangs almost 2 years when my male developed popeye several weeks ago and died after I added sand from another tank. My skimmers have since stabilized the tank. Now my female is the lone seahorse. She does share the 36 gallon DT (with a 20 gallon sump) with an OR pipefish, a captive bred clownfish that I raised 7 years ago and royal gramma that I have had for 4 years. My question is I would like to get her a mate or seahorse friend. I know having fish in a seahorse tank is not optimal even when the fish are docile and disease free. Am I best to keep her a lonely widow or should a new seahorse friend adjust ok? I can not bear to lose another pony if this is overly risky. I should add that she is eating very well and does not appear to be grieving.
Thank you Pete for your response to my question via email. I will get Eve a friend but I wont feel rushed. I will make sure the tank is settled and stabilized by continueing water changes and my other maintenance for a while. That way I can feel confident that the tank is ready for more ponies.
