March 15, 2007 at 10:55 am #3488LeslieGuestMarch 15, 2007 at 8:50 pm #3490Pete GiwojnaGuestDear Captain:
Frozen Mysis is available in several different brands from many different sources. Gamma brand frozen Mysis is good, Hikari frozen Mysis is also acceptable, and Piscine Energetics frozen Mysis is the best in terms of nutritional content and quality control. Your local fish stores should carry one or more of these brands. If not, PE frozen Mysis is available online from Premium Aquatics and a number of other sources. It’s available in two different sizes and the smalls are easier for young seahorses to slurp up. One way or another, you’ll need to line up a supply of frozen Mysis before you order your seahorses, Captain.
The superior PE Mysis relicta is available in smaller quantities online from Premium Aquatics (see link below). The Piscine Energetics frozen Mysis relicta is now available graded for size. You can get the usual jumbo Mysis relicta or smaller Mysis depending on the size of your seahorses.

Depending on where you live, you may be able to obtain the PE Mysis relicta from a local fish store in your area:

Best of luck obtaining a good brand of frozen Mysis for your seahorses, Captain!
Happy Trails!
Pete GiwojnaMarch 16, 2007 at 1:15 am #3493DCFishEGuestI have found with my seahorses that the best Mysis are from San Fransisco Bay……for some reason my male loves them, while he didnt so much the Hikari brand….
I think the SanFran is easier to defrost being you can get it in thinner sheets instead of cubes and it stays together with larger juicier looking shrimp and they chase them down fast……….I also add some Vibrance which you can get here, and Selcon/Garlic/etc………they eat it all up and a variety of supplements as with saltwater fish is good.
Anyway good luck with your horses…….hopefully they get hungry enough and take a bite, from there it should be smooth sailing. BTW when one of mine wouldnt eat anything but live, the red shrimp sold here and enriched clean brine I have found can also hold them over if your "horse" will only eat live foods until they take the Mysis…Good luck…..David
