    Hello Pete,

Will I need to re-certify? Is this a new program? Did we get a certificate?

    Thanks,

    Dear T.J.:

No sir, you’re good. This is just a continuation of the old seahorse training program, not a new training program, T.J. All is well.

If you contact me offlist at the following e-mail address, I will send you a copy of the official Ocean Rider Seahorse Training Manual, including all 10 lessons in one document, so that you can download the document, save it on your computer, and then refer to any material in any of the lessons whenever you please:

    petegiwojna@aol .com

Best wishes with all your fishes, T.J.!

    Ocean Rider Seahorse Training Program

    Dear Kimi:

All you need to do in order to participate in the seahorse training is to contact Ocean Rider and express an interest in the training program, just as you have done.

Okay, Kimi, to help get you started off on the right foot, I will go ahead and send you the entire seahorse training manual – all 10 lessons together in one file – in PDF format as an attachment to this e-mail. You can then download the attachment, save it on your computer, and read through the 10 lessons at your leisure, taking all of the time you need to go over the information and absorb the material.

As you do so, it will be your job to contact me via e-mail whenever you have any questions or concerns about the material in the lessons, and I will then do my very best to answer all of your questions and clarify everything for you. And I will also be relying on you to keep me updated when you the aquarium system you will be using, or make any changes or additions to the tank, so that I can keep the information in my records regarding your particular seahorse setup current and accurate at all times. That will allow me to give you the best possible guidance and assistance as you go along.

All we ask in return is that you stick with the highly domesticated Ocean Rider Mustangs or Sunbursts when you are finally ready to add ponies to your tank, Kimi. As you know, Mustangs and Sunbursts are the perfect ponies for beginners. They are hardy, highly adaptable, easy to feed, and perfectly adapted for aquarium life — the world’s only High-Health seahorses, guaranteed to be free of specific pathogens and parasites.

The seahorse training program is very comprehensive, consisting of several hundred pages of text with more than 250 full-color illustrations, and it will explain everything you need to know in order to keep Ocean Rider seahorses successfully in a home aquarium. We provide a free copy of the seahorse training manual to all first-time buyers and customers to assure that home hobbyists are well prepared to give their ponies the best possible care before they make a purchase. There are no charges whatsoever for these services.

Be sure to save the PDF file with the seahorse training lessons on your computer for future reference, Kimi. It includes a detailed table of contents with page numbers, so that you can quickly locate the material or section you would like to go back and review at any time.

Just remember that the lessons are for your eyes only, Kimi, with the obvious exception of any immediate family members who may be helping you with the aquarium or the care of the seahorses and other fish. Please don’t share the PDF file with the complete training program or the individual lessons with any other hobbyists or individuals without first obtaining my expressed permission to do so. Thanks for your cooperation!

Best wishes with all your fishes, Kimi!

    Happy Trails!

    Ocean Rider Seahorse Training Program

    Dear Lynette:

Excellent! Congratulations on your upgrade, Lynette. A well-established 32-gallon aquarium equipped with live rock and assortment of soft corals can make a wonderful seahorse habitat and I would be happy to help you optimize your aquarium system for that purpose.

Okay, Lynette, to help get you started off on the right foot, I will go ahead and send you the entire seahorse training manual – all 10 lessons together in one file – in PDF format as an attachment to this e-mail. Since you are new to reef keeping, Lynette, I will also attach a second document to this e-mail that is devoted to the subject of “seahorses in the reef tank” so that you can download it, save it on your computer, and then read through the information at your leisure. Hopefully, you will find it to be helpful.

Best wishes with all your fishes, Lynette!

Lynette Swantack for seahorse training. [email protected]. I just read the above post and I’m so excited that you are still doing the seahorse training! I am new to reefing. I bought a 16 gallon Biocube in Dec. It was cycled with live rock, live sand, and inverts. I have some coral: 2 zoas, 1 Duncan, 2 leathers, 1 gorgonian, 2 feathers, and 1 candy cane. All are healthy. I will be getting more gorgonians soon from my lfs. I also released copepods in the tank 10 days ago. I have had 2 hippo erectus for three weeks And feed them frozen Mysis shrimp by hand with an eyedropper. I tap on the tank and they come right over to me. They follow the Misys shrimp as it goes down the tube and will actually pull it out of the tip if I don’t squirt fast enough! I want to make sure that I take the best care of my ponies, That is why I want to take your course. Thank you in advance!

    Hey, Pete;

I’d like to start working on the training program. Raised fancy tail guppies as a teen in the early 70s, which sounds slightly pitiful now that I say it, but was very proud of the fluorescent colored spots and stripes I came up with at the time. Tried to start a saltwater tank with a goal of seahorses 15 years ago but with an unfortunate choice of a small hex tank and limited knowledge, never did get it stable enough for livestock, so put the idea and the tank away.

Looking for a hobby with a view to retirement. 64 gal tank with sump, protein skimmer, uv light, circ pumps, some books–trying to set myself up for success this time. Been going slowly. Finally have live sand, dry rock, and salt water in the tank, and just got my first ammonia reading.

Let’s do this! (Please and thank you.)

    Dear Sheryl:

Excellent! I would be very pleased to help you get started off on the right foot with your new seahorse project.

Fancy guppies were my favorite freshwater fish when I first got started in the aquarium hobby too, Sheryl. I was also smitten with the kaleidoscopic colors displayed by the males, as well as the fact that they were livebearers and would give birth to perfect miniature replicas of themselves.

Of course, that is something I found equally fascinating about seahorses, even more so since it was the males that would get pregnant and give birth to dozens and dozens of perfect miniatures.

A 64-gallon aquarium system with an efficient filtration system including a slump, protein skimmer, ultraviolet sterilizer, and live sand and live rock can certainly make a splendid seahorse habitat, Sheryl.

I will go ahead and send you a complete copy of the Ocean Rider Seahorse Training Manual offlist, Sheryl, and we can take it from there. Let’s get going!

    Hi Pete!

My husband and I are looking to purchase some seahorses from Oceanrider. We are experienced reef keepers with a 40gal reef tank and a 125gal FOWLR. In anticipation of our new pets, we have set up a 40gal tank (20x20x21) with a eshoppes nano sump with refugium, bubble magus curve 5 protein skimmer, radion xr30w pro light, jebao rw4 wave maker (covered) and also plan on getting a lifegard aquatics QLUV sterilizer 25 watts. We filled the tank and sump with nutrisea water and have 21 pounds of live rock with other artificial decor for hitching. tank has been up and running for a couple weeks now. We have a few zebra crabs and nassarius snail in there now as part of a future clean up crew. We would love to get started as quick as possible with the course!

    Thanks,
    Jennifer Kovach

    Dear Jennifer:

Excellent! As experience reef keepers, I have no doubt that Ocean Rider seahorses will thrive under your diligent, conscientious care.

A 40-gallon dedicated seahorse tank equipped with plenty of live rock and an efficient filtration system, including a sump/refugium, wave generator, protein skimmer, and eventually an ultraviolet sterilizer, can certainly make an ideal seahorse habitat.

When you’re ready to bolster your cleanup crew, you’ll eventually want to add a few more of the Nassarius snails to help clean up the meatier leftovers from the seahorse’s messy meals, along with an assortment of herbivorous snails to control nuisance algae, but the zebra micro-hermits and Nassarius snail you already have is a nice start.

I will send you a complete copy of the Ocean Rider Seahorse Training Manual as an attachment to an email offlist, Jennifer, so that we can get started with the training right away. The seahorse training Manual is very comprehensive, consisting of several hundred pages of text with more than 250 full-color illustrations, and it will explain everything you need to know in order to keep Ocean Riders successfully in a home aquarium.

Best wishes with all your fishes in the meantime, Jennifer!

    Happy Trails!

Will you please include me in your seahorse training. I have a reef tank for two years and I have a 60 gallon tank with a 20 gallon sump that I want to convert to salt water for seahorses. I’m looking for some great advice and would be honored to be included in your training. Thank you
