Thanx again for all your help. 50% of the water, sand, and rock came straight from my 4 y.o. reef tank so im pretty certain it is established enough for the sponge. Also the fire shrimp is pretty big, hes a couple of years old. Do you think a cleaner wrass would be a better idea or do you think they would eat it?

    Dear saltfreak:

    You’re very welcome!

Okay, as long as the water quality in the newly established aquarium is good and you acclimate the fire shrimp properly after the aquarium has cycled and stabilized, I think your Lysmata debelius should do fine. If it’s a good-sized fire shrimp and and it goes into the aquarium before the seahorses, I think they will do well together and there is very little chance that it will be eaten.

I think a fire shrimp (Lysmata debelius) is a much better choice for a seahorse tank than a cleaner wrasse. The cleaner wrasse could be a potential disease vector for a long list of potential pathogens and parasites, and very rarely does a cleaner wrasse thrive in a small, closed-system aquarium.

Best of luck with your new seahorse setup, saltfreak!

    Happy Trails!
